I did simply because I didn't know how dangerous it could be. I didn't learn that until I came to SR when I was 1 year sober. When I found out it could have killed me it scared the crap out of me so now I don't recommend it to anybody but I do realize that people will do it.

If you are determined to try it at home my suggestion would be to start with a visit to your doctor, reading the sticky at the top of this forum "Quitting What To Expect", having somebody with you that has also read it and can call for medical help or get you to an ER if you start experiencing medical issues that require assistance.

Good luck,
Kellye

Hi shay,

You have good reason to be scared. Detoxing on your own can be fatal. Speak to a doctor, go to the emergency room, go to a detox centre. Just please don't attempt this on your own, or rely on an internet-support board to get you through this potentially dangerous time.

It`s always good to see a Dr

I went it alone
after my last binge which I stayed on for 3 days
I slept and ate what I could and it took about one week for me to get to feeling better.
Pls see a Dr

Same experience as bballdad.

I don't recommend it. The physical/mental withdrawal was intense.

There is no shame in asking a medical professional for help. I think it shows strength.

Why make it harder than it has to be?

My best friend tried that too many times and she eventually passed away. You MUST get medical care. Please.

The day before I stopped drinking I went to me doctor for help. He is now one of my best supporters.

Alcoholism is just the sort of thing you should be talking to your doctor about.

Hey shay---long time since I last heard from you. Glad to see you are still seeking recovery. I agree with what the others have shared--please go and seek medical help. Detox can be deadly--I was scared too but I did manage to reach out and ask for help. Please don't try to do this on your own...it can be very dangerous.

Good to see you again...

Here is a link with solid information and some of our
personal experiences. Please note that not one member
had the exact same symptoms...there are too many variables
to know how de tox will affect you.

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...at-we-did.html

I was not drinking 24/7 when I decided to quit...my health
was good....and I was not aware of the danger....

Please do not be as foolish as I was.
De toxing is a medical issue...get professional help.

Hope you will keep in touch...Yes! you too can win over alcohol.
