Fell off again

Hello all. I have fallen off pretty hard. Been drinking again for at least 1.5 months. Drinking 4 nights per week. I have not drank if 4 days. I keep screwing this up.

I will try again!

"I will try again!"

Don't try.

DO IT.

You CAN do it. If I can then anyone can.

So what where you doing before you relapsed?

What are you going to do differently this time?

For me I had to reach the point where I was willing to do what ever it took to stay sober before I could stay sober, I spent a lot of years going through hell trying to quit and stay quit my way, once I hit the point where I was physically, mentally, and spiritually owned by alcohol was when I finally reached the point where I was willing to do what ever it took to stay sober.

Tazman raises the questions I was going to ask.

What's your history? What have you tried and not tried in your efforts to remain sober?

Meetings? 12 steps?

Keep coming back.

For me finally quitting was about giving up my pity pot! Once I got rid of the whoa-is-me attitude I was able to reclaim my life. Yes everyone is always here for you but at some point it becomes a crutch...I know it did for me.

Welcome back to SR!

Many of us had false starts on our way to solid recovery.

What is your new plan for sobriety?

Hughs Dad - check out the chronically under 2 weeks sober club in the Newcomers section. They are a great group. Some keep falling off over and over again and others are moving on but everyone there is really trying. The clubs are helping keep me accountantable, which I really needed.

You know, with me it's the same thing everytime. Stay sober between 8 to 17 days and feel great. Then I say I'm just going to have one, two months later I am popping adderhall and drinking a fifth of whiskey. I then get sick of drinking, and I am "turning my life around" and I quit. Go through mild withdrawls, get back on welbutrin, and become very happy, then repeat from the start.

It's like I'm on the merry go round with the same predictable outcome everytime.

Here are excerpts from the book that convinced me to quit

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...influence.html

I use God and AA to stay quit.

Hughs dad,

Have you done anything in terms of a sobriety maintenance program such as AA?

Now that you have identified the problem let's start working on the solution.

What will you do differently this time around?

Hughs dad one of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results!

If you are serious about staying sober you will need to be willing to do what ever it takes to get sober and stay sober.

If you are doing X & Y and wind up drinking again over and over again this should tell you something!! X & Y are not working for you!

Try doing X, Y, & Z...... if you wind up drinking again then do X, Y, Z, & A!!!!

If you really want to quit drinking I would highly reccommend finding a group of people who are sober alcoholics and talk to them..... find out how they stay sober and try doing what they do.

Think about it.......... you watch some one succeed in something and you can not do it, what do you think would be the best way for you to succeed at what they have succeeded at?

It is as plain as the nose on your face!

If you want what some one else has, do what they do!!! If what you are doing is not getting you what they have, do what they do!

What helped me was changing my behavior first then learning some skills to stay sober. Like they say: don't pick-up even if the bottom falls out". Keep trying.

Wink here 4 u

Hey,
All I can say is hang in there and be strong. I have not been able to quit drinking yet but I feel like I am in the right place here to talk to people who have been in my situation so I can learn how to change. I tell myself everyday that I am not going to drink but I still do. Wishing you well and would love to talk anytime.
