Went to my First AA Meeting
Went to my First AA Meeting
This morning I went to my first AA meeting. I have been sober for 17 days and felt that it was the right time. I know that I never want to drink again and I know that my life was unmanageable!
I was so scared to walk into that room. Plus I walked into a big church and had no idea where to go! It's not like you want to ask anyone where the AA meeting is!
I started crying when I got my newcomer chip and was overwhelmed with the true and genuine sincerity everyone in the room expressed.

Just keep doing what your doing. Go to meetings and listen. Ask for help when you need it. There are those in meetings that want to help. Take each day as it comes and don't worry about drinking tomorrow, next week, or next month. Only concern yourself with today.
Ask a fellow member for a schedule of meetings in your area.

Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you have found a great support group. Just remember--everyone there once had to walk through the doors of AA for their first time too. You don't ever have to be alone again if you don't want to be. God bless!

My first AA Meeting in 1988 was in a church basement...I had sweaty hands as I walked across the room to the tables of people...was greeted by one gentleman who found a place for me to sit...that was a long time ago but I remember it like it was just yesterday.
I love my sober life. I am so glad you have gone to your first meeting and WAY TO GO on 17 days SOBER. :day4

Thanks for all your encouragment! I love SR and the ability to just log on anytime! With gas almost $4.00/gallon it isn't always an excuse not to be able to make it to a meeting!!
I don't go to too many meetings, but do go to some. I've found the members to be very kind and helpful.
I'm happy that I found this site, as it's like a meeting in my own room!
Congratulations on your sober days!:ghug3

BTW Jen I love your moniker "beingjenagain"!!!! Stick with the program, get a sponsor, work the steps, you will look in the mirror and see a "New & Improved Jen!" I wish I could share just how different I feel today, today I am a part of the world, I am no longer a drunk sitting in his garage all by himself slamming beers seeking oblivion!
Miracles happen in the rooms of AA every day, I am thankful I am one of them.

You are doing beautifully Jen. Did you get that feeling at the end of the meeting that you found a place that felt good? The first meeting is very scary but nowhere is a new person more welcome than in the rooms of AA or NA. Congratulations.
Good job jen!!! Keep going back, it took me several weeks before I started to get the lingo and understand what was really up in meetings. AA is no different then the general population and as a result you may very well run into some jerks, focus on the good and ignore the bad, they are still working on them selfs.
