Tom, yes I meant the cop was a moron for saying that rubbing an animal's face in urine or feces is a good training method. I have a soft spot for animals. My comment was a little out of place in an important conversation about humans. I was trying to get at the idea that minimizing her fears was shameful too, but I must admit I said it because I hate the "rub their nose in it" fallacy in general.

SO, THE BIG QUESTION? DID YOUR SPOUSE LEAVING MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR RECOVERY GOOD OR BAD???
No.
Not one bit of difference.

I didn't sober up for a man.
Hell, I didn't sober up for THREE men!
Or for a job.
For a reputation.
For a lifestyle.
For a house.

I sobered up .. because I couldn't die.
I tried.
More than once.

I sobered up ... because I don't get another chance.
Period.

That ... for me.... is the bottom line.

You sound like you're at the 'it's either him or me' place.
Choose YOU.
Choose YOU ... every time.
First.
