gratitude

as i have posted here before, i relapsed after having continuouse sobriety for 3.5 years. in that year that i was out there working on my lead i received 2 duis. my alcohol counselor sent me tonight to this victims class, it was people who have lost someone to a drunk driver or people who had a near death experience because of a drunk driver. at this class tongiht it was not videos, it was real people from area sharing their stories. after leaving the class i was filled with so many emotions: guilt, sadness, anger, and gratitude. WOW! here i was upset at myself for getting this second dui, but it could be so much worse. i have a second chance at life and so many others dont have that because they are DEAD. Here i am at times upset that I am an alcoholic but my bestfriends dad has stage 4 cancer and has no cure. i have cure if i want it, and for me it is AA! I get so caught up in the small things and dont think about the grand scheme of things. i dont know i just had an overwhelming sense of gratitude after leaving there and thought i would share it! when i am grateful i cant have self-pity, for me its impossible! i have always "known" that gratitude played a huge role in my recovery, but today 8.15.07 @ 12:18am I really know it!

Hi, laurenlanai25:

Nice post. I give you lots of credit for being able to see and admit this, being able to break out of the self-centered world in which we all naturally live and see the bigger picture. I hope you get to AA meetings on a regular basis, maybe do a 90 in 90.

Blessings from the Snowgoose.

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for sharing your experience - I'm glad that what started out as a dui turned out to be a positive experience for you.
I'm glad you're here with us.

Hi There,

I too have had DUI's and I thank God that I never hurt anyone.

Grateful, Yes.

Ditto.

3 Dewies. One with an accident involving another car. Thank God they weren't hurt. (Treated and released in about 45 minutes)
