suggestions please!?
So after coming off of a relapse, how long, if not at all, should i wait to get back to the steps? I know I must get a new spons but I am talking to my old spons, I just havent decided on who i am going to ask yet. Last night I did a written first step and I feel pretty confident in it. But again I think I have all the answers, so I do need some guidance.
Thanks,
L
Thanks,
L
Why do you need a sponsor ? Did he/she fire you ?
I'd wait until the fog clears at least. Maybe 30 days ?
How bad was your relapse ? One day ? Days ? Weeks ? More ?
Thanks for reminding me that I don't want to go back out !

When I came back in, I just had to not drink and go to meetings. After a short time I got a sponsor. Since that day, I have left step work up to him. Within a week or two we were well into step one. The point is I had to be willing to be guided and to do that, I needed a sponsor. My plans for recovery had not worked in the past. That included working the steps without a sponsor, working the steps in the order and manner that I thought they should be worked. AHHHH, there's that word...thought. See, that's where things get scary....we think. So, letting my sponsor do my thinking for me has been working. Had I not done that, I would not have done a good first step. With his guidance, it was thorough, and rigorously honest. The key difference this time was getting a real grip on unmanageability.
Speak at a meeting and say you need a temporary sponsor.
You don't have to keep them forever, but that way you have one while you get going on the Steps. You can shop around if you need to keep looking for a long term sponsor. Let them give you some guidance and give up some control to them (for many of us this is the hard part).
