I don't get that thirst anymore,
for me it took, going to A.A. meetings and working the steps, its the only thing that has worked for me,
one other thing that helped me was to eat some sweets.
it was hard for me to find anything to drink that I liked, I tried iced tea, gatorade, all kinds of stuff, but everything tasted so sugary. finally I developed a taste for pepsi, now I drink way too much pepsi, seems like I go overboard with everything.

Do I know that thirst?

OOOOOOhhhhhhh Yeah.....I know that thirst.

The kind where my feet wont carry me fast enough to the bar down the road.

The kind where the traffic takes forever to move and I start chewing on my lip.

I also used hard candy and chewing gum to help me with the cravings.Drinking a lot of water was extremely helpful too.

However the support and encouragement I received in AA was what really helped me to stop.

Dont let a relapse discourage you from trying to get sober. You are not alone.Hang on in there ok.

Peter.

Yup, I know that thirst!
I usually get it while watching a sports event on TV and a beer commercial comes on. You know the one! There's a picture of a glass of beer with the sweat running down the side. I look at that golden nector and think, "My God wouldn't a beer taste good right now?" Then.....I smile at the thought of the insanity of what I just thought. "A BEER???" What a joke! A case of beer maybe!! But "one beer??" Pllllleeease!!

*LOL @ Music*

Oh yea......... I used to say " One beer, What's the point?"

Yup on day 14 gotta admit it was all I could do from stopping by circle K for "just one beer", then I thought well they won't break up a six pack so I'd have to buy a 24 oz, and drink just 1/2 right? But I gripped the steering wheel tight waiting for traffic to move, *thinking to myself* "okay, you got 5 seconds before the light turns green, looking at circle K on the corner, and by the strength of all I had in me made a U- turn and headed home, and called a friend in AA. Whewwwww.... that was close!"

Yup.... know that thirst my friend, but it's those molecules of alcohol in every fiber of your being wanting a refill.

Don't give up!

I think of it but, time goes by and I don't end up doing it because you have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. Hang in there. You can do it! If you fail, try again.

Think of this...If you break one egg out of a dozen do you throw the rest away?

Never give up.

Tigress,

Sorry.. but the only time I was "thirsty" was when
I wanted to escape from whatever was going on in my life
that I didn't like. Needing what I thought was relief.
The next day same stuff...nothing changed. Needed to
change but how?? Sharing in meetings that's how.

I never liked the drink only the feeling that it gave me.

Blessings,
Vinnie

I'm like vinnie.

I drank to oblivion, for oblivion.

Vinnie sez....
I never liked the drink only the feeling that it gave me.
That was me.
