Rain in my Heart

Has anyone seen this doc? It aired on BBC last month. It follows the lives of four chronic alcoholics at the end stage of their desease.
I swear it will scare the alcohol out of you. It sickened me.

I haven't either, just thankful that I found AA before I became one of the stars in it.

Worthy of a BUMP!

Watch it, see the bottom of the pitcher plant and live to tell about it.

There is now a follow up. Sadly only one still lives.

And when you stand back in disgust and say "I'm not that bad!" be sure to add yet. This is a progressive condition with two outcomes, abstenance or death.

Take care.

Thanks for the link. I'll get through it eventually. I started watching it, but I started feeling faint and getting nauseous. Hits too close to home or reminds me I guess.

Is this worse than intervention on A & E? I have seen some hardcore alcoholics on that show. Just curious.

I do wish you all would watch it. It is horrific. It is nothing like A&E's inetervention.

I did want to point out some things. I did notice that the young man, I will call him yellow for obvious reasons got better very quickly when he quit.
Did you notice? He looked younger, healthier and happier in mere days.
What does that tell you about the poison that was slowly killing him? The recovery and speed once he abstained was incredible.

I call that hope. Hope lives.

I did tell myself "I'm not that bad - yet - and don't ever want to get that bad". So I'm saving my life one day at a time.

Wow. That's all I can say. This is a must-watch.

My first reaction, like many, was "I'm not that bad and if I ever got that bad I'd obviously stop".

My second reaction was: Who am I kidding? How many times have I said "Ok, If I ever... fill in the blank (drive drunk, drink in the morning, miss work, end up in the ER) then I will quit." Well, guess what? I've redrawn the line in the sand so many times I think I'm digging my way to China by now. I'm sure all of those people had "I'm not that bad" times at some point too.

Just. Wow.

WOW. I just sat and watched all 10 segments of it from start to finish and I'm just speechless. That was just simply eye opening to say the least.

We all know what alcoholism will do to us but watching something like that and seeing those four people with what happened to them and knowing that's the road we're on really does open my mind up. That is not what I want my life to end up like.

Thank you to the person that posted the youtube link to this. Seeing this is extremely helpful. I know the next time I have a urge this show will certinally be the first thing that comes to my mind.

I would suggest writing to the BBC and asking them for a dvd.
If you use torrents then I would suggest a search because it is out there.

Best of luck.
