Today is the day
Today is the day I've been planning on starting my sobriety. I knew with the events going on this past weekend it would be pointless to try before now. I'm ready to take back control of my life. To lessen the shock to my system I eliminated hard liquor from my routine for the past week. All I have to do is not drink today. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all. Tazman, I do have a very busy life. In fact all I have to do is go to bed at a normal time instead of staying up drinking. Me and my three kids are all into martial arts so just about every night we're busy with that until close to bedtime. I have gotten rid of the alcohol so it will not be convenient to drink. If it is time to go to bed and I don't have a reason to stay up like to drink then I should be able to end the day without drinking. I've been through the withdraws before so I know what to expect with that. It is just a matter of sticking to my plan. I also have the benefit of a supportive wife at my side to help with the tough times.
tk please be willing to do something beyond being busy if you start really feeling tempted, alcohol is a very sneaky best, I found myself a lot of times with the best of intentions suddenly staring at a drink in my hand wandering how it got there.

I hear you, Taz. I did the same thing (wondering how that drink got in my hand) until I made a very clear and well-defined plan for myself. Being busy wasn't a problem, the problem was being busy and sober at the same time.

All the best to you TK....
Know that in the trying times..in the moments of darkness and struggle that you will indeed face when a new and sober inner and outer world opens...that each time you endure, you are building emotional and sobriety muscle. We alcoholics can feel so adrift when faced with a mood or feeling we cannot change instantly (as we did before with alcohol) but if we can push on thru, reward awaits. In my moments of darkness, I find solace in knowing all I face is for my growth...if I'm sober and lucid enough to actually learn and mature....lol. Faith helps me face the darkness and all my fears. I truly hope you have faith in something outside of yourself...that'll will help ya through.
All the best.

It will be hard but when you think about drinking here are a few things to try. Believe it or not coloring books and crayons will take your mind off of the current want and situation I do this with my anxiety attacks. Getting on this forum and just writing is a good thing also and last but not least get a poker chip and keep it with you at all time and everytime you feel like drinking I want you to put that chip in your mouth and wait for it to melt and when it does then you can have a drink.....
