getting more and more nervous
as my year approaches.
I've spoken (chaired) twice before, and it was hard to wring a mere 10 mins out of me. I really had to strain.
I'm not a big talker, especially f2f. I'm the one in the corner, smiling and nodding. The one who, when sharing, takes about 30 seconds, then goes back to smiling and nodding.
A couple of my f2f friends said they didn't even think I could talk for my first 4 months

I am not much of a talker either but I have suprised myself on more than one occassion at how well I was able to speak. I have learned the trick is not to worry about it ahead of time. Try not to think of it at all and just as you are about to speak ask your HP to speak through you and give you the words. It works great every time.

junem,
you are right. I am in a more or less agnostic period right now (I pass in and out of it), but I can relax and let my spirit, which is following Good Orderly Direction, move me. And maybe the Spirit (my HP when I'm feeling it) will come to me during that time.
Dan, you are sooooooo bad. Don't change

Mooty,
I understand..I have the same fear. I have chaired a few times over the years, it does not matter if I have 6 months or 6 years, I still get really nervous, I only talk for about 15 mnutes, most people talk for at least 20 -30 at the meetings I go to. Just say what your heart wants you to say.
and I wil be right next to Gabe.....making faces at you!

Moot, you are not alone. I don't like doing it at all!!! Just remember, everyone there was/or one day will be right where you are, and just as nervous. And even more important, you have so much to share!!!

in about 10 mins, Paulie I know I have to relax!
Ted and Chy..... I'm going to have a big cheering section
The day I'm celebrating, if you can call it that, is Friday the 15th cuz my sponsor is on vacation till then. So give me the cheering section at 8:10 or so on Friday the 15tth.

Does your group have a tradition that you tell your story on your aniverary date? Sounds terrifying. I've decided I'm never going to do that.
I will, however, happily attend yours. I'll wear suitable attire so you know it's me.

Lemme see, six hour or so to drive to Maryland to be a Yeah, I could do that.
Of course, if I can't make it physically I can still cheer on-line.
Mooty, are you going to tape your talk and put it up online for those who can't make it physically to the great event?
P.S. I'm not quite a micro-talker, but the idea of speaking for a half-hour or more is utterly terrifying. Of course, when I do speak I'll get to tell my spinach story - and you've probably got some equally graphic tales to tell if you really get started.

Spinach isn't going to come out easily in writing... I have told it again in a meeting recently, in a semi-speaker context (on a panel at a rehab meeting - that's one intense experience).
Let's just say that the spinach was where I found my rage, and we can all be grateful that the only things which died were the spinach and a wooden spoon.
