Ringing sponser
Liss, I'm sorry you're struggling. You know the fact you're even posting proves you really don't want to pick up. Phone her...or phone someone...no-one can 'stop you' if you're determined to drink, but I'm thinking there's a part of you, a big part, that doesn't want to be on this path any more.
Most alcoholics can't call before they drink. Otherwise, they'd do it and never drink. I always suggest that people work the steps and they'll likely never have to rely on the phone to keep them sober. It has been that way with me.
Alcoholics Anonymous was founded by one drunk reaching out to another when wanting to drink. Once I accepted that I was powerless over alcohol and my life was unmanageable. And, that I was willing to go to any length to get sober. Picking up that phone and talking to another alcoholic was an instrumental tool in getting through those moments when the compulsion to drink was overwhelming. That, and just putting it off for 5 minutes, and sometimes a minute. You do get through it. Just keep trying.
