Welcome Ky2Beijing, glad to have you and best wishes.

I can relate to your issues. I think almost every member of my family is addicted to something, most having more than one addiction.

I come from a lineage of alcoholics, too. I honestly think that the combination of genes AND environment increase the odds of developing some sort of addiction.

I think it already exists; it's called birth control!

Hey Ky2Beijing! Welcome and looking forward to getting to know you. Same addicted family here. I have lost two family members and one long-term relationship to alcohol, two are active addicts, one is in recovery and then some more. You are here and you can break the cycle. Hoping I can too, for me and to show my kids that it is not inevitable. I just wish I could have done this a lot earlier in life, but better late than never, right? Better late than never.

Close call today, day 6. Had BBQ on beach with friends and all but me were drinking. I was first offered a glass of wine, and I managed "thanks, I'm OK", then another friend just made me a screwdriver and handed it to me. Thankfully his wife said, "Honey, make her a virgin one!" And he got confused and meandered off to do so. I was really tempted, thank my doctor for that Librium! I took it ten minutes after the wine offer and made it through. Tomorrow will be a challenge, too. Girl day starting with breakfast con mimosas. I am going to have to mentally prepare myself....

It would appear your cob webs are clearing out quickly...

The BC plan could pose long term issues. I suspect at some point we would runout of people...

Hi Frugal, I too have lost family members to alcoholism. You are right, not only is it "better late than never," I think we will be good mentors should the situation arise.

ForestRunner, that's a really difficult environment to be in when you're only on Day 6. Kudos to you for being so strong. If it were me, I might skip girl day, but if you have to be there, best of luck. Keep busy. Think of those mimosas as glasses of ethanol poison and why would you want to ingest that?? Yuck.

Or, ronjohn, the alcohol industry would run out of customers.

Forestrunner, I second what Frugal14 suggests! I'm playing charades, I'm a hermit.

Well class, I’m signing out before ronjohn comes back with something that totally stumps me. Good night all!

I really had to change my social scene for a while FR.

Hanging around drinkers was just too much for me - I really crumbled in that social pressure.

Later on, when I was sure sober was what I wanted to be, and I'd accepted I could not drink again, I could go anywhere - but for now... tread carefully.

There'll be other parties BBQs and weekends.

It must be really hard with kids NewStar - especially if it's hot where you are.

You can do this tho!

Thanks D! It's hot but not too bad. But still I'd usually have a drink now. I'm not going to though. I'll check out the link, thank you

My sweet friend just texted me and told me how proud she is of me. All the ladies I'll be with are super supportive and proud of me. They will drink; I will not. But I reckon it'll be a 2 Librium day... But I am NOT missing out on a 90-minute massage and soak in the seven sacred pools... It is my vacation after all!
