Round 2 here at SR
I found SR in January of this year while I was in the midst of opiate withdrawal. I white-knuckled the w/d but began drinking heavily. If I was awake, I was drinking. I'm not exactly a big guy, but I was going through a handle of whiskey a day. I would come to the chat room here completely intoxicated. I felt like my alcohol problem was okay because I was clean of opiates. After a month clean of opiates, I had dug myself deep into alcohol dependence. I would pass out around 2 am and wake up at around 5 am covered in cold sweat, shaking, and needing a drink. I ended up in the hospital near the end of February for 9 days detoxing. I've been clean and sober since. I'm thinking more clearly than I have in years. I'm going to AA meetings. I just got a sponsor and I'm starting to work the steps. I'm ready to recover the appropriate way this time... "sober" recovery. I'm going to live life on life's terms, taking one day at a time.
Wow. What a story. I completely understand how easy it is to switch addictions without even realizing it or even think you're doing better for that matter. Thanks for sharing and I hope you won't be haunted much longer.
