Laughter and Tears

Your are reading from Today's Gift

A good laugh heals a lot of hurts.
--Madeleine L'Engle

The ability to laugh at ourselves has always been important. In old days, fools and jesters held an important place in the royal courts. Today we have clowns who make us laugh.

If we look closely at a clown's face, we will often notice a bit of sadness around the eyes. Clowns are able to move easily from sad expressions to ones full of delight very easily. For all of us, laughter and tears come from the same deep well inside. And often, after a good cry, we find ourselves ready to laugh, easily and joyfully.

Laughter is a gift waiting for us on the other side of our sadness.

Can I begin to laugh by smiling now?

cwohio, your avatar always makes me smile, and that's a good thing these days.

I don't think I would be where I am today if my sense of humour hadn't allowed me to laugh at myself. Laughter and tears, two ends of the spectrum but perhaps where the circle of emotion meets.

Hugs
Ann

ann - thanks - i love them - so many different ones that i can change off to suit the season or my mood - lol

i can laugh more today since i began my long recovery journey. i still have a problem with expressing sadness via tears tho - guess those were shoved WAYYYYYYY down deep and it will take more digging to get them to the surface. i have noticed a few times tho lately that some songs on the radio bring me to the brink of tears so i just have to let them come and open up the dam valve.

glad i can make you smile!

hugs - christie
