What's Stoic philosophy got to do with it?
Whilst my sobriety is now and always will be my primary objective in life, my 'passion' , and I suspect I'm not alone in this,in the sense of incorporating other beliefs, philosophies , ancient wisdom etc. to enhance this...
On which basis I was first attracted to Stoic philosophy which is not as many misguidedly think about repressing emotions, it is about transforming them. 'The main problem for the alcoholic centres in the mind,' I think it says in the book, 'Alcoholics Anonymous.'After reading an article on its links to the Serenity Prayer...
'God grant me the serenity,
To accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.'
Now that's pure Stoicism, perhaps along with Seneca saying,'Drunkenness is voluntary madness.'
