Escaping the insane.
Escaping the insane.
' Drunkeness is nothing but voluntary madness' - Seneca, which if you follow Einsteins definition of insanity being when you keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result mirrors Seneca's observation and in recovery emphasizes Marcus Aurelius saying, The object in life is not to follow the majority but to escape joining the ranks of the insane.'
"His alcoholic life is the only normal one." I have found for the most part that this insanity business is something I have only been able to see in hindsight. I have never been able to tackle it in the moment, because I was completely unaware.
Of course, today I am very sane. But yesterday I was completely nuts.

A 'new' pair of glasses...
Me to, well over nine years into sobriety I see my former life in my 'drinking days' as a high functioning alcoholic considerably different than I do with, metaphorically speaking, my 'new' pair of glasses.

Insane behavior - oh, my, how true. I did things that can only be classified as "nuts" when i was drinking- so many were against my fundamental self-fabric, my morals, my....compass for all that is good and right.
I LOVE the line in the BB that says "we will come to intuitively know how to handle things that used to baffle us" (para BB 4th ed) ..... relating this to insanity, knowing how to handle things calmly, sanely, effectively - and knowing this intuitively- is a true gift, and evidence of the promises of sobriety coming true in my life.
Thanks for the early morning thoughts, R-mayne!

Begin at once...
Thank you...to compliment this and Bill W. I offer this,
'Begin at once to live, and count each day as a separate life.' - Seneca
something I need to remember to!
