Songs that help you stay positive

Let me be myself - 3 Doors Down. This pretty much sums it up.

I guess I just got lost being someone else
I tried to kill the pain, nothing ever helped
I left myself behind somewhere along the way
Hoping to come back around to find myself someday

If you are/were a crackhead: Finger 11; One Thing

A song for everybody: Iz; Over the rainbow/ wonderful world, featured at the end of "50 First Dates" with Adam Sandler & Drew barrymore ( Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I)

all addicts/alcoholics can probably relate to Marillion; Clutching at Straws, from start to finish this album nails it all, one of my favorite isolation/escapism pieces. It's my guess that the lead singer (Fish) suffered from this disease as he has insight I have rarely heard expressed by anyone else. And he is an awesome writer/poet.

Hey there. I've purposely searched out many songs that help me stay positive. Bruce Springsteen wrote a TON of positive songs, but here's some that stand out in my mind atm....

BADLANDS,
THE PROMISED LAND
THUNDER ROAD

when Dawn was alive and she struggled through addiction, she listened to this song alot.

YouTube - Martika - Toy Soldiers (Song Text)

Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on
For toy soldiers

It's getting hard to wake up in the morning
My head is spinning constantly
How can it be?
How could I be so blind to this addiction?
If I don't stop, the next one's gonna be me

Anything by Staind, the REAL AIC, Slipknot, Stone Sour, "changes" by 3 doors down....hell, most of my music helps me greatly. My husband doesn't understand how "angry and depressing music" helps me...but it does.

Not music...but the movie "Limitless" should relate to everyone here. Very good movie, but not the best thing to watch while detoxing!

Rob Thomas, don't have a link, but his lyrics in this song resonate with me

I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
but just stay awhile
and baby then you'll see a different side of me

I'm surprised that SquareHead hasn't been on here with his Badfish lyrics:

He turned me on to them my first day here:

If you grab a hold of me tell me that I'll never be set free
I'm a parasite, creep and crawl I step into the night
Two pints of booze tell me are you a badfish too, are you a badfish too?

But I ain't got no money to spend
I hope this night never end
Lord knows I'm weak
And won't somebody get me off of this reef?

Baby you're a big blue whale, grab the reef when all duck divin' fails
Swim, but I wish I never learned, water's too polluted now with germs
Dive deep when it's ten feet over head
Grab the reef underneath my bed, underneath my bed

But ain't got no quarrels with Jah
Ain't got no time to get hi-high
Lord knows I'm weak
Won't somebody get me off of this reef?

Ain't no quarrels with God
Got no time to get old
Lord knows I'm weak
And won't somebody get me off of this reef?

Badfish, Sublime

I hated listening to music while on Oxy. I would constantly listen to talk radio. Once I stopped, I immediately fell back in love with music. Anything upbeat. I could relate every song I heard to my situation as I walked or ran on the treadmill at the gym. I love listening to The Killers, Avenge Sevenfold, AFI and Tiger Army.
