Still think you can handle one more high and come out the other side with an intact pulse? Contemplating going back out one more time? For all those not yet convinced that drugs can KILL YOU stone dead, read on.
I'm lucky enough to have almost five years clean. My brother Michael is not so lucky. After not being able to reach him for the past few days, we contacted the Edmonton Police Department yesterday and asked for an officer to go check on him. He was found dead on his living-room floor, his drug paraphernalia on the bathroom counter. He had been dead for at least three days and was decomposed to the point that the only way to identify him is through fingerprints. As if this horror is not enough, his 14-year-old son happened to show up to visit his dad after school and saw his father in that condition.
A few days ago, Michael's answer to my two questions above would obviously have been yes. Now he's lying in the morgue with his face rotted off. My mother is not able to kiss her son goodbye or even allowed to see him. His son is traumatized for life.
My brother rolled the dice one time too many and paid the ultimate price for a high. If you're reading this and your answer to those two questions is also yes, or maybe, you've still got time to reconsider. If you think this can't happen to you, I'm here to tell you it can. Get it through your head - this is the ugly reality of drug use and what happened to my brother can happen to you too. Please don't disillusion yourself about that.
Getting clean is ******* hard, it takes work and sweat and tears. Staying clean is hard too. But it gets better. If you've got a drug problem, please get help. Reach out. Talk to someone. Get honest. It's not too late for you - yet.

very sorry to hear this margo. i hope you and your family are able to get through this terrible trauma.
I used to be like your brother was, had that same kind of attitude about getting high and how barely anybody ever Overdoses or dies from them. Funny thing was just last week I found out somebody from the rehab I was at 8 months ago just died from an overdose, his funereal is on tuesday. Kinda blew my mind, it definitely happens out there all the time. I am just now starting to see it.
Such a shame to lose somebody to drugs, really is a waste.

I hope your nephew recovers from this horrible trauma quickly...

Margo, I'm so very sorry for your sad loss.
I went to rehab with a woman who found her brother the same way, and she told us her reaction was to drink the bottle of vodka she found near his body. That's when she realized she needed help immediately. Maybe someone will take that away from your brothers sad passing.
