Update and a huge thank you!
Hey everyone!
it's been sometime since I posted here, I just wanted to give an update on how I'm doing.
It will be three years this coming new years eve that I haven't drank any alcohol!!
I had a lot of help over the years with my battle with alcohol addiction from many years in AA, therapy, hours and hours of reading self help and other related material and books, long chats with supportive people, excercise plans and these life saving forums. I learnt so much about myself and alcohol addiction it has been a very enlightening journey and continues to be so!
I really just want to say thank you to all of the good people here that took the time to help me by responding to my posts and teaching me avrt. It helped me to view addiction in a new way where I wasn't blaming myself for being a useless piece of poop with no will power! Instead I learnt how to be in control of my thoughts! This has helped in so many other areas of my life too, it's amazing I have literally become such a strong, kind, independent, balanced person, I'm getting to know myself better and this helps me to help others in my life. Life throws up lots of different scenarios for me to deal with and I deal with life without the need or want to get drunk, it's working well, I'm happy!
To anyone struggling atm hang in there and NEVER EVER GIVE UP TRYING! I failed so many times but I never gave up on myself, you can do this too!
Much love to you all.

flame11,
It’s great to hear that you have achieved permanent abstinence using AVRT!!!
I too used this forum (and the book) to learn AVRT. I am over 4 years happily alcohol-free.
Spent years in AA and a few more in SMART, but it was AVRT that finally “clicked”. It was truly amazing how effective it was for me. It’s so good to read someone with similar experiences.
Thanks for sharing your success, and please keep posting. It’s important that we keep AVRT out there, especially since the RR website is no longer in existence.

Great to read your post Flame and congratuations!
I also found AVRT liberating - it freed me from feeling like I was a hostage to my addiction to alcohol and has set me on this new journey - 5 months of sobriety so far.
