Hi Paul I have stopped booze and cigarettes at the same time but I know a lot of people on here would suggest not doing so as it is quite tough going at first. I had reached the stage and age where both were equally impacting on my mental and physical health so had to break free. Also I had a history of never being able to stop one if doing the other.
I used patches for the first 6 weeks and read Allen Carr as I have found understanding what these things do to your mind and body helpful in dealing with both. I have never used an E cigarette but I have heard it can be helpful. I must also add that I have had an incredibly supportive family, ready to listen and talk to me when I have been down or anxious in the last 16 weeks. I know you are having issues with yours and their support to stop drinking, so you alone will know if the stress of stopping both will be too much at present. Good luck with what ever you decide on Paul and well done on not drinking.

I quit smoking 5 years after getting sober. I would have sooner, could I, but I couldn't.
I think there's a lot of advantages to quitting now, so my vote would go to yeah - give it all ya got. One advantage I think many people don't realize, or maybe it's not the same for everyone, is that when I quit it kinda got me high. I didn't use any patches or gum, and the withrawl from the nicoting made me feel like I was high for week. I don't think nicotine withrawl is as horrible as some people make it out to be, and I smoked 3 packs a day for over 15 years (smoked 20 yrs. altogether). I got a sore throat, cough and cold too, but I kinda enjoyed the other part of the withdrawl.
The other advantages are that you can get it all over with in one shot, and if you feel it's getting too tough you can always go back to the cigarettes and wait till another time. Kind of gives you a safety net. I think kicking cigarettes early on also gives you physical edge, as your body will feel lots better which will probably aid in staying off alcohol. If by chance you give it a go and aren't successful however, don't go beating yourself up. It takes a lot to give up the smokes. As I said, for me it was 5 years of almost monthly attempts.
Good luck.
