Im new to this

Im on day six with fairly bad anxiety. Does anyone have any suggestions? :

It gets better. Do you have any local support? AA worked wonders for me (although I was scared to death to walk in the 1st night)

Take a walk, read a book, change your habits from your drinking days. It will get easier, but I hope that you can get around some other sober people - it helps!

Hi Timinator! Great name. Welcome to SR. I am sorry you are having a bad time with anxiety.Keep in mind you are doing a great thing for yourself by choosing recovery. I had bad anxiety too, in the begining.It does pass.Anything you can do to take your mind off it?Stick around and read a bit. You will find that you are not alone.

Warm bath, warm milk, calm music, and maybe try some GABA, supposed to support a calm mood. How about a good book? Stay away from caffeine. If you have a SA at home perhaps you can get a back rub or a foot massage. Works for me. Good luck.

Way 2 Go on 6 days so far! Any suggestions for taming the Anxiety Beast? Mmmm.


1. Unplug the TV and hide the remote.
2. Listen to a relaxation CD, like Cool Meadows or Desert Thunder.
3. Put a pouch of Catnip (nepeta cateria) under your pillow. If you have cats, you may have to fight them over it. Or get a catnip toy for them too!

Welcome to SR and we are so so glad that you are here and one thing that I have found is to get into action, just do something to keep your mind busy, like watch a movie, read, writing is good, SR will help, work, whatever it takes hope that you KCB and I will send a thought and prayer your way.
