Hi Rory! It's good to have at least a temp sponsor at the very start. The shakes along with the other withdrawal symptoms will gradually go away. I had tremblors really bad for the first week or so. Some of the Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms may take a while longer to recover from. It's not fun. ...Like memory lapse...what was I just saying?? Oh yeah. Some of your faculties may never recover 100%.
It does get better, as your body & mind gradually heal.

Hang in there Rory! You're doing good.
It's great you got someone to talk you through this ordeal. It's even better if someone is physically there with you during this time.
I'm not sure what the sponsor told you, but drink a lot of orange juice and eat a lot of sugar to help with the shakes. That is if you are not a diabetic or something. Candy bars, coffee cakes, you name it.
My other advice is minimize the amount of coffee that
you drink. If you are anything like me, sleep will be hard to come by and you don't need to be jacked up on caffine at this time. I think I slept two hours total for the first three days.
Take it one hour at a time and after three days you'll have the the physical part whipped. Good luck man. Trust me it will be worth it.
