Any Recommendations?

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good books on alcoholism, or point me in the direction of a list (if there is one)?

I've had two weeks sober today and I really like to read other peoples accounts of quitting alcohol- so I thought I'd celebrate the two weeks by buying myself a book- instead of drinking myself stupid and I usually would after any kind of acomplishment!

I've just read Drinking: a Love Story by Caroline Knapp.

Thanks a lot,
Jen

Hi Jen
There is another thread on this you might like to check out - but I don't know what it's called! LOL! We can start another.

I would HIGHLY recommend the following :

1) Healing the Addictive Mind - Lee Jampolsky
2) Goodbye Mr Wonderful - Chris McClure (new)
3) DRY - Augusten Burroughs (think you'll love this one)
4) A million little pieces - james frey
5) Living Sober - don't know author, but you'll get it on amazon, or just type in the title, it will come on. All of the above I got on the internet.

The book I have to say though that I got the most most out of is The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Enjoy!
(and well done on your two weeks, that's awesome! I hope you feel great!!! Well done!)

Smashed by Koren Zailckas

Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs (this comes before his Dry book that Cathy recommended, although you don't necessarily need to read them in order.)

Also, someone recommended Paradise by A.L. Kennedy, but I am still on the waiting list at my library to get that one.

I loved Drinking: A love story! Glad you liked it too. Reading has really helped keep my mind busy and remind me not to drink.

Congrats on two weeks!!! So glad you're here!

If anyone wants to use the amazon search tool to find the books, it is located at the topic of this forum, as the first thread.
