What I love about alcohol...
What I love about alcohol...
What I love about alcohol:
***crickets chirping****
What's there to even like about it at this stage in the game?
What I hate about alcohol:
Hangovers
Guilt, remorse, resentment, anger, depression, etc.
I am very sick and very tired
It's ruining my marriage
One drink is never enough
Getting completely plastered and passing out is the only way to satisfy the monster
I lost my job
I lost my friends and close relationships with my family, but got "closer" to the alkies in my family, just to use an excuse to get wasted
My relationship with God was severed
I am loud, obnoxious, clumsy and stupid when drunk
I have severe intestinal problems as a result of drinking
Pledges, promises, vows, etc. that I never keep
Seeing the look of hurt on my husband's face constantly
Having zero sex life with him
Having no energy to get through the day
Gaining 40 pounds from sitting on the couch drinking beer and eating like a pig
Shall I go on?
How in the hell could I have been in denial so long? Thank God there's a way out.
Day two and counting...

I just keep reading that list over and over again. I started a journal today (it's a nice leather-bound one I got for my 21st birthday 4 years ago and never used) and that was my first entry. It was a real bitter pill to swallow, too. I just kept adding to the list, so it's almost three pages long now. Good grief! Day two is winding down and I'm supplementing myself with Milky Way and Snickers--yum!
Keep that list where you keep your money. Every time you want to buy a drink read that list over again. Glad you decided to stop. Just remember, the bottom you think you've been to has one even deeper waiting for you!
Have you looked for an AA meeting? Lot of people in here are willing to help you. We've got people all over the globe. You want a meeting someone will help you.

Well done Lilalki! I couldn't have said it better myself! Thanks for the reminder! I've been struggling for awhile, got sober in July, fell in September, HARD! Started over again immeidately, have fallen a few more times since!
I'm not where I need to be, but thank God, I'm not where I was at either!
Find a hobby, volunteer, exercise, anything you love to do, throw yourself into it, make it part of your daily routine, you WILL stay sober, if you want to! Glad you are finding yourself!

Well done and thanks for the reminder. I have to second Captain - have you looked up an AA meeting. Don't do it on your own if you don't have to. You will find amazing support there as well as here!
Thanks again and keep coming back!

Oh, I'm definitely getting my rear end into the meetings! I haven't been able to drive the past couple days because I've been so dizzy and shaky, but this morning I woke up feeling a little better. I hope tonight I can hit a meeting. In the meantime, I have the Big Book to keep me company. Reading all those stories in the back really helps. I'm also thinking of blowing the dust off my Bible and reading a bit today. Day three is looking good so far!
