Day 1 (again)

That's it. Just Day 1. I hate disappointing myself over and over. Have a plan. Will execute.

It will stick.

Keep modifying plan to shore up weak spots, and don’t quit quitting.

You can do this gudurn4404!

Welcome Gudurn

Whatever you think you can add this time, the more chance you have of making this quit different.

post as much as you need to, ask questions, maybe join the Class of May support thread?

Hi Gudurn. So glad to have you with us.

The drinking life is exhausting & degrading. We need to admit it's no longer fun, exciting, or whatever we once thought it was.
It was hard to admit that every time it was in my system, bad things happened. I had lost all control & was leading a reckless, joyless life.
This can be the end of the misery. We know you can get free.

Day one will be the best day you ever gave to yourself gudurn.

We all had to go through it and when we’re determined the day turns into a life proper.

You can have life, too.

Hi Gurdun, well done on day 1. Look to the future.

A plan is the way forward. Giving up drinking is a huge upheaval, and a whole host of things need to change. If, for example, a drinker sits in front of the TV with a six pack every evening, they need to cut down on TV too as the two things go together. The trick is to then replace that time with a new activity which doesn’t work with drinking. A plan also involves letting people know you’ve quit - real friends will understand and even support.

If you’re willing, please let us know what’s your plan? No such thing as a bad plan if it works.

I have no intention of being snoopy, but in the interests of your own clarity and success in recovery, can you articulate the specifics of your plan?

Hi Gudurn

Reading, posting, replying to others in need, and staying active here on SoberRecovery is also a recovery plan I use to stay pleasantly sober.

Stick around, you wont be disappointed if you do.

My recovery depends on Alcoholics Anonymous, and I have come to conclude that there is a type of alcoholic for whom -- like me -- AA is the only solution. Of course, I have no way of knowing whether you are an alcoholic at all, much less the type I'm describing, but I hope you'll keep an open mind about it.

One thing your post reminded me of is that I've heard it said in AA that the newcomer who says, "I know what I have to do," may be worse off than the one who admits they have no clue what to do. In my case, what I knew about was relapsing, and I needed someone who knew about staying clean and sober to help me.

As it says in the Big Book: "Willingness, honesty and open mindedness are the essentials of recovery.... these are indispensable."

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat more about any of that.
