My sister and I finished the second White Lotus in Sicily, which I am in love with. That was such a good story and well acted. I really enjoyed it. It was pretty funny too. I want to move to Sicily now. It looks beautiful.
Grateful to be sober and feeling a little better. I am thankful that this headache I woke up with isn't from imbibing.
Have a great sober day all!

My brother is now taking aspirin. None of our family is overweight. He would be better to stop drinking alcohol, but that won't ever happen. I know and I can. It's essential for me.
I'm getting labs checked next month.

I'm sure you are happy to be the healthy man you are now, and be able to manage risk factors!
Thanks, Leshar. I’d never heard of Lp(a) until yesterday. I spoke to a GP this morning (online) and they had to go away and read about it! It’s not generally tested in the UK which I find bizarre. The rationale is that there’s no medical treatment - it’s good to know if you’ve got high Lp(a)! I’m seeing a cardio doc to see my options. I did get a CT scan on my heart in 2018 and have a small amount of plaque in one artery. No doc was concerned at the time, but I need to keep an eye on that. Statins don’t make any difference to Lp(a), and my LDL is now fine anyway, but statins can be used to stabilise plaque apparently, although I’m not a fan to put it mildly. I’d much rather sort this by regular checks and lifestyle.

It’s good you’re getting tested. I’ve got two brothers (one is extremely obese ☹️ ) and when I know a bit more, I’ll let them know.

1 in 5 people have “high” Lp(a).

Me too. The good news is that there IS as Season 4 so we should be able to see it.

Here's an old drinking fountain, there are several in Shoreditch as it was the area that saw the last cholera outbreak (I can't remember when - 1860s I think). I'm curious to know what is behind that little pink door. A London Estate Agent (Realtor) would probably insist it was a 'spacious studio apartment close to local amenities.'

Love the little rental with the pink door. i don't even care that the toilet is outside below the front door. I would have to build stairs to reach the crapper seat tho.

Hodd, A healthy splash of Central American hot sauce and you will not taste the Kale.
Or any foods for that matter.

Congrats Alpine 2 Years Sober.

There is a TV/YT show called Hot Ones. Hot Ones is the YouTube show where famous people answer questions while eating increasingly hot chicken wings. I have had some super hot wings.... Everybody needs to try them..Oooo so spicey

RAL I’ve not seen those two I’ll have a look. I like the foreign ones too. I’m watching the sketch artist, seems ok.

fishkiller When I was a kid my mum uses to slice onions and cucumbers then soak in vinegar. We was from South Yorkshire, so not sure if it was a tradition like Yorkshire Puddings Not together though.

Aly pleased you had an enjoyable time with your sister. Hope your headache soon passes.

Alpine more congratulations on 2 years sober. Despite your challenging year of hell last year you remained steadfast to your sobriety.

Things that scare me and wouldn’t be on my bucket list are: going up in a hot air balloon, bungee jumping, visiting an active volcano, jumping out of a plane or participating in Mardi Gras. But I can understand how these things would be exciting for others. A friend’s mom went back to college for her bucket list.

Greece is also on my travel bucket list.

^ Hi Peke, I (aka Mr Narrow Minded 🤣 ) followed my partner to Cyprus last summer, which is sort of Greece with a piece of Turkey on top. She’d lived there 12 years and was always talking about it. I’d never been interested before. Wow! It was great. The sights, the food and the markets - so much fruit and veg grows in that climate. So much different stuff on one island.

I’ll bet that it was breathtaking, Hodd. (Haha not narrow-minded at all!). You partner must have been an incredibly knowledgeable guide.

Feeling anxious. Now that my colleague has passed away there’s a lot more work to divide amongst the rest of us. I’m fine with that. But there is less planning…it’s like the night-before type of instructions if that makes sense. I’m not great with last minute additions.
I rode hard yesterday. I think that I’ll just clean a bit after my husband leaves for work. And then get into my pajamas early. (Really early). I have a new book it’s a thrilled actually so that will be a switch. It’s not my AV calling, just a bit tense. I appreciate being able to write about it. Not try to stress anyone else out.

I have a small amount of DNA from Cypress and the Aegan Islands. I did the ancestry thing, that mixed with Swedish, Irish, Italian and the Islands, kind of and eclectic mix.
Hi Peke and Mags Hi to everyone and I hope you're all having a great day so far. After watching White Lotus, I really want to visit Sicily, although I have no Sicilian DNA. It looks gorgeous. Mt. Etna in the background is a little scary though.
Zen, Hot Ones sounds hilarious. I'll have to try to find it. I hope you and Ry are doing well. I'm hanging in there.
Grateful for my Botox injections and my neurologist today. It does help the duration and how often I get the headaches. Plus, my neurologist is so nice and so handsome and the only one I've ever met with a great sense of humor. I'm lucky to have him for my doctor.
Glad to be sober. My mom and I may go to lunch today, but I'm not sure if I'm still in the mood to go. We'll see.
Have a wonderful day all.

Miserable weather-wise in London today, non stop rain or drizzle. The sky is the colour of mouse dirt.

I suspect it might be the entrance to the rumoured first Channel Tunnel that runs to this secret door in Paris that appears only to those who know the password.

Slept way too long today, didn't get out of bed til 4 pm. Feeling kind of crummy. Was supposed to have dinner with ck and sil but not feeling good enough to walk over there and back home, so just stayed home. Feeling so tired I'm going to go to bed early.

Son in law got rid of that bothersome app, Vidyo connect. He took control of my computer and got rid of it. It's so convenient to have my daughter and son in law who are computer experts so close by when I have trouble.

Good morning Weekenders!

I’m a bit concerned that it’s almost June, with no sign of Winter arriving anytime soon in the southern hemisphere. I have a stack of firewood just standing there and might have to take up whittling.

Sao, interesting about the first First Channel Tunnel. I’d love to see some pictures of how it looks on the inside.

A busy day at work ahead for me, with a multitude of tasks ranging from tedious to mundane.

Wishing everyone a pleasant, sober Wednesday.

Hi again Leshar, we can swap to PMs for this if you prefer. I’m going to discuss options with a specialist, but I’m not overly worried. If anything, this high Lp(a) reading is probably my biggest wake up call since I quit drinking. I’m healthy enough now and shocked to be honest that my cholesterol numbers (HDL, LDL and triglycerides) are now so good. But I need to address my current bad habits - overeating, stress, etc. I’ve done a lot of reading on this already, and as well as the obvious things like smoking and alcohol, sugar is a big big issue. Carbs are a lesser issue, but these are converted into glucose, which the body needs but not in the quantities us westerners are consuming.
