Hi I’m new to the website. Went to an Allen car seminar last Saturday and stopped drinking from that day. Early days but feel much more alive. Any good tips to keep me on the right road?
having pangs of god I’d like a glass of wine but have not acted on these thoughts.

Hi Sunflower and welcome
I moved your post from our troubleshooting section to the Newcomers forum. You’ll get more responses that way
Read around and post as much as you want. See what’s working for others, ask questions…
I think that the best way to start
what kind of things did they talk about in the Carr seminar?

There is a list of different recovery methods here at SR. I use the AVRT "Big Plan" along with tips and tricks and recovery tools that help keep me sober. I post a whole lot because I have time for it. Making friends here has helped me.
Find some recovery plan. practice, recovery tools, journal, healthy lifestyle, and the list goes on, that has a personal meaning to you.
The only wrong way to do recovery is not doing recovery at all. Anything healthy and promotes a drug-free life is good to go.

Sunflower, welcome to SR! I hope this day finds you well. Like Purps, I find it helpful to join in on many threads here, even if it is to just read and when you feel comfortable post. The people here have helped beyond words and there has been no judgement. If interested I can share with you some that have helped me, and please don't be intimidated by joining. You WILL be welcomed with open arms.

I could not stay clean and sober till I fully committed to the recovery program of Alcoholics Anonymous, and I have come to conclude that there is a type of alcoholic for whom AA is the only solution. Obviously, I have no idea whether you are an alcoholic at all, much less whether you are the "hopeless but for AA" type I'm describing, but feel free to PM me if you want to chat more about any of that.
Hi Sunflower, I'm glad you stopped drinking and that you are here looking for support. My suggestion would be to come up with idea for yourself for when you get a craving to drink. And, it's also a good idea to think of things to do in your life during the times you would have been drinking.
Hi Sunflower. It sounds like you are off to a good start. This early abstinence part you are in, I would have been climbing the walls by now, but it's different for all of us. I suspect this early part is not going to be a big problem for you. The next phase is more like a dance than a fight. More thinking at less white knuckles. Don't fall for the belief that you can moderate someday. I can't tell you how much sobriety has made my life so much easier. Not overnight, but slowly and gradually better. Best of luck to you.
Hi Sunflower
Congrats on starting your sober journey. As others have said it just gets better and better the longer your sober, the rewards can be amazing. I find it helps to remind myself why I wanted to quit in the first place. I also listen to alot of quit lit (even after 19 months) and podcasts because it just helps, visit here daily because its a vital support network with lots of great advice and people and generally I just focus on all the good things sobriety has given me such as more confidence, self belief, less anxiety, more money to name a few.
I've read Alan Carrs book and found it very useful, hopefully the seminar was good.
Best of luck and keep posting and visiting.
