Feeling positive
So I’ve been quiet for a while. Popping here and reading just as a reminder to myself.
so my last day I drank was December 29th . I make that 32 days sober. It’s been tough at times notably twice but each extra time you say no I feel that makes me a bit stronger.
before I used to think I was missing out on something when not drinking.
I’ve lost 6kg been keeping busy with fitness and long walks with the dogs and getting into photography. It turns out when I drink I’m missing out on my life.
tomorrow I will not drink.

Yes, that's how it works FDL. Each time we say No, we are made that little bit stronger. I think Dee describes it as 'building sober muscles'. Stronger in our resolve.
Congratulations on 32 days. You've cracked the Month, and that's no easy feat in the beginning.
Hope you keep posting.

Thanks everyone - there is so much more to life isn’t there.
I want to stay accountable and be conscious of why I quit. Previously I have gotten to 8 or 9 weeks and the AV has made me complacent. Oh one won’t hurt. Then before you know it it’s slipped back to every other day then every day to deal with daily life stress, which doesn’t actually help at all!
I’ve totted up how much I really spent on booze. Which isn’t easy to do and harder to admit. But I think in the region of about £5000 a year possibly more.
I intend to spend that money on a family holiday instead!
onwards and upwards. I’m looking forward to a brighter future with a clear head 😊

Hi FDL,
5 pounds certainly is a good sum of money.
Going on a nice vacation with family beats zoning out in front of tv.
I'm over a month sober now too.
And really beginning to live and enjoy my life again.
Congrats on your time!

£5000 a year sounds a lot, FDL, but I can imagine it’s very possible to spend that on alcohol. I occasionally take a bizarre and uneasy pleasure from looking at alcohol prices in supermarkets. I feel a selfish pleasure for not wasting my money and life now, but I feel sorrow for those who are still trapped but most of all I feel sorry for the old me and my now ex-wife. It’s interesting you mention getting to 8 weeks or so on previous occasions before succumbing. There are some shocking but brave stories on here of people getting to 5+ years and then succumbing. I can’t thank such posters enough as they’re but for the grace of whoever go every single one of us. Life’s great without alcohol, but we’re only in remission from being pulled back in, so we can never be complacent.

it’s so easy to spend that much on alcohol in the Uk. Especially drinking premium stuff. If you drank out and heavily you can easily spend £100 on evening out. For me mostly home drinking but I would put that at £10 a day, then what you spend when out in bars and restaurants plus holidays. It’s insane.
I have certainly noticed how much cheaper buying groceries are when there isn’t any alcohol in the basket !
thanks for your support. Being sober is certainly where I want to remain
