Day 0
Hello. This is my first day back to sobriety. I've been in and out of sobriety and I would like to live a sober life. My self-esteem is at ground zero and I would like to be a better partner and human. Drinking and smoking weed keeps me down. I'm glad to have a sober space.

Welcome Earl. You’re on your way, believing you can live a better life sober. That was a big hurdle for me. I would try to moderate which proved impossible. All that energy sopped up by drinking when there is so much more to life out there.
Hey man - welcome, glad you are here brother.
I arrived here in 2003, took me a while but finally got better - going on 8+ years sober.
I self medicated with alcohol, it worked for while -- but then it didn't.
What I have learned, is that my alcoholism - when I stopped the alcohol, the "ism" remained.
My thinking, reasoning, just basically dealing with life is what I struggled with --- before I really started to abuse alcohol in University (late boomer lol).
My recommendation as a start for you, is to listen to some AA speaker "tapes" on YouTube, search for Emotional Sobriety, I love Clint H. ; Astrid H. ; Chris R. ; Bob D. -- so many.
Channels I subscribe to are : Mad Dog Recovery AA Speakers ; Sober Cast: AA Speaker Meetings - 12-Step Recovery ; Principles in Application with Randy M ; MOTIVE - NATION
We can all recover.

So happy to meet you, earl.
I found strength & determination when I joined SR. It's such a relief to know others care and understand.
You can reclaim your life & have a great new beginning.

I remember several day 0's where my self-esteem was completely at rock bottom and shattered. I even posted about it on here about a week and a half ago. I have since rebounded and slowly regained what I lost. Drinking just slammed me into the ground and destroyed me. Things do get better.
I wish you the best in your efforts. Getting sober for most of us involves a lot of learning and changing our life styles, and there are challanges. It seems to be more than just a simple decision that is easy like throwing a switch. You can learn how others have done it here. Not everything may apply to you, but some of it will very much. Sobriety is rewarding.
