Hi Rud welcome to SR

you posted in our chat administration forum which is not the actual chat room... so I moved your post here to Newcomers forum - you'll get more response that way.

I guess it depends on what you mean by destructive behaviours – can you expand on that a little bit?

Sure yes and of course. In fact, in my 4th year of sobriety, I have found these old bad habits, patterns, obstacles and complexes not only re-emerge but have, in some ways intensified. The practice of disappointing myself and others, the shame that comes with it, the anxiety that comes from getting caught having failed in some way - all tie into the years I spend "waiting for the other shoe to drop" as a heavy drinker. It took real work to get sober, but I find I am in the midst of maybe an even more existential and meaningful battle now.

Not that my life isn't better and happier and more peaceful in every single way since getting sober. But the work remains.

Being sober makes life easier and you present in it. It's still life though and there is plenty to deal with good and bad.
