1st Post - 30 days today
Hi All- been checking out this site for years. Had a week sober here and there over the last couple of years, and had several months back in 2008. After Memorial Day this year, made an appt with my Dr and asked for Antabuse for the first time. What was there to lose? Got the Rx several days later (June 12) and today is 30 days. Also attending some AA meetings on-line here and there. Instead of introducing myself with a long first post, I'll contribute to other's posts with my insight/thoughts/issues. It's not easy. My partner still drinks at home, but it doesn't bother me (because I know I CAN'T drink or I'll be sick). I don't miss drinking a 1.5 ltr bottle of wine every night, chugging (sneaking) a quick glass of vodka and cranberry when my partner would take the dog out for a walk after dinner, priming myself with several glasses of wine at home before heading out to dinner or wherever we went out. I feel good so far, and with the support here, I hope to keep on the right path. Thanks for 'listening'. You'll be hearing more from me!

Congratulations! You're right, what one get from sobriety is freedom. We are slaves to alcohol. I have made so many positive changes since I stopped, but it's important to stay vigilant. Take it one day at a time, but don't become complacent.
God bless.
Welcome Trident. 30 days is great. This site has been a huge help to me. I highly recommend the morning gratitude. Even on my bad days I force myself to think of things I am grateful for and it really helps me cope.
30 days is great! Keep going. Many people don't count days but, for me right now, it is extremely important. It is a meter that measures my accomplishment. Since I started drinking, 35 years ago, 90 days was the most I have ever quit for and I strive to beat that record. I am about 2 weeks away from that and, afterwards, the sky is the limit. It seems like it has taken forever to get to 74 days but I know I can keep going.
I imagine as months go by, and hopefully years, the need to keep track so rigorously will eventually fade as being sober becomes the new normal and ceases to be something I have to be obsessed with.
