I thought I cuold lol!) DAY 1

In my 50's now (wow)...
Been quit many times from a week to a year or so..

I can have a few tonight! (duh)
BOOM.
Back to nightly drinking... a 6 pack a night.
Then a 6 pack plus one 24 oz (8).
Then its 8 but on the 5th beer I walk or cycle (hammered) to the store - DONT WANNA RUN OUT.
Lately it has been a 12 pack a night, with occasional 3am vomits.
My mind is not clear and Im a creator .
OTHERWISE-
Yup life is good. No, it REALLY IS- YET Ive drank when its sucked, cause its sucked!
Im READY to he done with this cycle!
Looking for input and or support right now,..... Thank you

Welcome back!
I really had to restructure my time and the activities I engaged in when getting sober. I made sobriety my #1 activity for months on end. Still do. I engage here when I wake and engage here before I sleep.
In between the hours I am taking care of myself and ensuring that alcohol is not a part of the equation.
You can do this. I have found that sobriety requires a plan of action!

Hey Welcome back and congratulations on the insight, this is huge. When I got to a similar point where I could see the cycle escalating and progressing, I knew it was time for a change. Unfortunately, it took me several more years until I was at a place of hopelessness. I spent a year and a half this last time out. Every time that voice of reason came in for reflection, I would drink/use until that thought couldn't exist. This left me out of it almost all the time. When you have that moment of clarity, I would definitely jump onto that. If you truly are done that is... That is for you to decide.
There are so many programs out there that can help. Personally, I attend NA and AA and I gave myself fully to the program this time around; finally acknowledging that this illness will never go away. I believe there are a handful of people that only use SR, I personally cannot compare the forum to in-person fellowship and interaction. Night and day difference.
Best of luck in this new journey, you're off to a great start by reaching out! Wishing you all the best, reach out if you like <3

Welcome! I went through the cycle for decades, man. I'm also able to quit foe weeks or months at a time, even had 3 years at one point. The AV always talks to us eventually, sometimes in very subtle ways. Because we trained it that alcohol is the solution to anxiety, stress, frustration, etc.

Better to get off the roller coaster now. Learn to recognize the addictive voice (AV) which is just your primitive brain wanting the pleasure of the buzz. Just like it wants food and sex. I highly recommend the Rational Recovery book or at least look into some basic info on AVRT - Addictive Voice Recognition Technique.

Welcome to SR!

After many attempts. I finally got sober for good in my early 50's. It can be done and your body will thank you.

I used SR a lot. When I wasn't posting for myself I was posting to others. It helped keep me grounded and focused.

Have you tried AA? Seems like you have the discipline but maybe you need the support and ability to work with other alcoholics. I think you'd enjoy that .
