Day 49. First post
Hello all.
As the title says I'm on day 49. This is by no means my first rodeo!
I have had a drinking problem, to varying degrees, for around 10 years although looking back I'd say I've indulged in avoidant behaviours since adolescence and alcohol is simply another, albeit a very potent, version.
I had 5 months sober last year and drank pretty heavily for 8 months until the 7th of December.
I am pretty well versed in the science behind addiction, I like to understand things.
A huge problem for me is PAWS. The old pink cloud is such a beautiful place to be but when you fall off it.... It hurts!
I was a whisky drinker predominantly, very secretive, alcohol was my medicine and it worked very well. It also was slowly eroding my soul. Sobriety is not an easy ride.
I could waffle on for ages but I'm basically here to find like minded people to share experiences with.
All the best.
Swift.

Hello and welcome. You're in the right place and congratulations on forty nine days sober. That's a great start.
Early sobriety is by no means an easy ride. Especially since you're experiencing paws.
But just remember, there's nothing a drink will make better.
The pink cloud is gone and now you're left with what can be a harsh reality.
It may take some time to feel better. Paws doesn't last forever, but sobriety can. And it's a great way of life.
So stick it out. Maybe attend an AA meeting or other program of recovery.
And there's always someone here who understands. I do.
Best to you and I hope you stick around.

Thank you everyone.
I found a really helpful video on PAWS that actually describes it as "post acute withdrawal SYMPTOMS" rather than syndrome.
The guy in the video basically explained the negative aspects of PAWS as healing symptoms and really did give a pretty uplifting spin on it.
I'll post a link if I can find it....

Hey, Swiftly--congratulations on 49 days, and welcome! I hope you stick around and post often; SR has been a vital part of my recovery--lots of wonderful people and hard-fought wisdom to be found here. Keep up the fabulous work.
Welcome to SoberRecovery! I hope this is the beginning of a permanent recovery. Read around and post often--it works if you work it!

Welcome to SR Swiftly. Living in Day 67 here. The last week or two I've really started to feel better and have now big chunks of each day that feel normal. Let's both stay on this sober road together, darn the pink clouds, PAWS, cravings, etc.
