Day 1

I'm so happy to find this site today! I am desperately trying to not drink today! The last couple years I have spiraled and getting nowhere fast. I have attempted to stop many times but never make it. Feels like a compulsion and I can’t stop. I have never been brave enough to reach out for help but this time I am! 🙏

Welcome echo! Talking things over here really saved me. I was drinking all day when I found SR & couldn't imagine stopping. That was 12 yrs. ago. Knowing I wasn't alone anymore meant everything to me. I hope you'll stay with us - we understand, and we care.

I'm from Wisconsin as well, where we pride ourselves on holding our liquor, aina?

It does become exactly like a compulsion, I know, but you absolutely can stop.

Come post here lots and tell us how it's going for you. Read around a lot too - you'll find many people have similar stories and different stories, but mostly you'll find that we are a caring community that will do our best to support you.

What's the plan today echodenali? Write down an agenda for every single hour until bedtime and stick to it.

Great idea! Work during the day, but then home and that's the hard part! Anxiety is very high today and have ran into this before and it usually sends me right back. I need a much healthier way to deal with it! And I do realize that now, can't keep doing this to myself.

Hey echo. Welcome.
Hey echo. Welcome.

Do you live with other people? Do you have one or more (sober) people around who can be a support to you (in addition to us here at SR)? Other support systems? Other folks who know the decision and commitment you've made?

If not, maybe that's something you want to work on. In time. No rush. You have a lifetime ahead of you.

One day, one hour, one step at a time.

I live by myself, I do need to work on that, my daughters are aware and supportive. I have been referred to IOP in past, but never followed through with it, but I believe it's time and somewhere I can go a few times a week to get the help I need. It's a start.

Good question.
Good question.

And if the answer is yes, guess what you need to do the minute you get home.

What is IOP? Whatever it is, if it is designed to help with maintaining sobriety, then yes, go for it!

That's great that your daughters are supportive. Are they adults? If they live close by, maybe they (or one of them) could come by and hang out, booze-free. Or maybe you can call them to talk if the anxiety or craving seems like it might get a little out of hand. Just a couple of ideas that come to mind.

Yes! re booze containers into trash (after you pour the contents down the drain).

Congratulations on Day 2, by the way.
