Good morning. I’m in a difficult situation at work.
i work in a busy hospital dispensary. Stock goes missing regularly but recently a large number of sleeping tablets disappeared over the course of 6 months and now i’m being accused of this but i think i know who’s really responsible. I want to help him whilst clearing my own name but not dropping him in it either. So in a bit of a mess at the moment. Advice needed.
Hi Sharkey
I find being honest is always for the best - but only you have proof, above and beyond reasonable doubt .
Rather than dropping them in it, I'd look at it like if it is your friend, your friend may need help .

Morning Sharkey
What a horrible situation to be in. As Dee says, if you are certain it is this person you would be helping them.
If they have a problem most organisations have schemes in place to help.
Could I ask, is the ‘guilty party’ likely to know you have been accused (be it this person or someone else)? If yes, they’ve been happy to stand back and let you take this stress.

Addiction is insanity.
Here we have an addict stealing sleeping pills to support his habit, or, worse, he's stealing them and either selling them or supporting some else's habit, and YOU are the one worried about saving HIM from the consequences of his actions.
Not only have you apparently stood by and not reported your suspicions about this crime, but now you're the one being accused of the crime.
And you're calling that "wanting to help."

I would kindly suggest checking out the Friends and Family section of this website and get to work on why you're confused about what to do in this situation.

Can I ask why you think this person stole the pills? If you have solid evidence than it’s your responsibility to report it. Even if you weren’t the one they were investigating. This will happen again if the person responsible is not caught.
You say you want to help but how awful would it be if this person overdosed and died?
just be honest. You got nothing to hide.
