I made it one Year

I stopped drinking one year ago Monday. I feel so much better. I actually SLEEP at night, have money in the bank, and my anxiety is gone. I'm going to start back on physical fitness this coming week.
I drank heavily for almost 30 years. The last few years I would drink to the point of throwing up then drink more. It was that bad! If I can quit anybody can. Anybody reading this trying to sober up....just do it!

Wonderful. Hope you find the physical fitness part as rewarding as I do. Seven years ago I could barely climb the stairs. Now I'm hiking, mountain biking, and swimming between a half mile and s mile each day. I'm 71 and realize how lucky I am. It's not giant leaps, but tiny steps that count the most.

I love reading stories like yours.

Congratulations!
Your story sounds much like mine.
Physical fitness is a great idea. I'm working out religiously. I feel so much better.
Isn't it nice to sleep? I passed out for forty years.
The benefits you reap will only get better.
More power to you, my friend. I'm on ten years sober and alcohol is SO out of my life it's just great. I wish the same for you.

Congrats. That is so wonderful.

Did it take awhile to get it to stick? What has helped the most?

Yes it took numerous attempts. I can't reall pinpoint any one thing. I was on the verge of loosing my job and that would have cost me everything. Maybe that's it.
I did rediscover my love of the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and just enjoying all that living out in a rural area has to offer. That might be it to.

I believe there is something to the "one day at a time" method. It really helped me out in the first few weeks
