NYC Airbnb
Harumphh I've been turned down for 2 Airbnb's in NYC & the only thing I can think is that I asked about if smoking's allowed in the apartment & I think I mentioned I'm also a non-drinker. Is it that unpopular there to be sober.....? or am I just looking in the wrong spots...
You wouldn't have stayed there anyway, right? So what does it matter? Just keep looking.
Tell them you are looking for a smoke free room.
Shouldn't be hard to find a non smoking place, I'd think those would be the majority.
They are turning you down because they figure you'll walk in, get a smell of the place and quickly demand your money back or not pay at all.

I’ve stayed in many an NYC AirBnB.
Go for the Superhosts if you can, read the fine print.
Most places will not allow smoking, so I wouldn’t worry about that. You really don’t need to mention the alcohol thing, either. Just look for something clean and close proximity to the subway.
Highly suggest Astoria for best price and location to great restaurants .

Hi NAP,
From tips on "why you might be getting turned down on Airbnb"
Getting turned down for some Airbnbs became a learning experience for me. Also a God-thing, on where I've stayed and where I haven't.
Are you renting the whole place or a room?

You Ask Unnecessary Questions
Before you ask your host any questions about their listing, you really should read the full thing first to see if it’s answered within (spoiler alert: it probably is). Worse, asking too many questions may actually cause a host to decline your stay.
Airbnb hosting can be time consuming, and it can be rather aggravating answering the same questions again and again. There’s also a (totally accurate, I might add) perception amongst experienced Airbnb hosts that guests who dutifully read the entire listing are the best guests, are most likely to have their expectations fully met (hey, they know what they’re getting into!), and leave the best reviews.

Thanks, that is great advice! My budget requires that I rent just a room, so I don't really wanna be around partying or heavy drinking, people coming home late from the bar etc.etc. There is also a thing called Human Hotel for creatives, which I may have found something on! Cheers
