Hello everyone!

33 days sober after years of drinking two bottles or more of wine a day.

It's been hard, dealing with anxiety has been just ridiculous. ECGs, convinced I'm about to die. Lots of doctors visits trying different medication to calm me.

Now on a high dose of beta blockers, and feel no anxiety, which is marvelous. I haven't felt this level of calm for years, but I'm finding it unsettling that I feel calm.

This is making me feel worried, because I'm so used to being perpetually anxious on high alert. This sensation is going to take some getting used to.

It felt wrong to me to feel calm and it felt wrong for me to feel happy too - but I got accustomed to both feelings.

I agree with and had a similar process of acceptance of new feelings. It seemed strange that the good feelings like calm were often the weirdest!

A mont is awesome and early- it took a good bit longer for my emotions and everything else to even out.

Welcome to the family. I found that my emotions were all over the map in early recovery. It takes a while to settle down, but it will get better.

I know how you feel. It's scary for many of us who have suffered for years to get peace - feels precarious and unreal. Yet try to enjoy it. Staying sober just brings more and more.
