Hello-
Welcome to SR, Mike!
I don't think I am mentally any weaker or stronger than when I was drinking. For me it was about re-training my mind and building new skills. Its tough and takes time, but you are too right - You Can Do This!

Hi, ive tried so many different methods over the years(except therapy of course) and none has been able to stick, even thru all the embarrassing nonsense which binge drinking brings. I quit smoking cigarretees 5 years ago and i keep telling myself that i should be stronger mentally than this disease. Hasnt worked yet. Im thinking about sober for a year but sounds so daunting. Im 47 been drinking since 13, sooo tired of it but its been big part of my life.
Binge drinking been such a part of my life as well. For many of us here.
Have you looked into Rational Recovery? I found many of their principles to be very helpful. Many here swear by AA, meetings always seem to help.
What are the reasons you want to quit? Focusing on those, leveraging them, and turning to the gifts of sobriety have helped me. Though I'm a major rookie compared to the sober pros here.
