One year tomorrow!
Well holy smokes! I never thought I would ever beat my Booze Beast, man did it ever rule me, and for such a loooooooong time. But I did it! And tomorrow marks one year free of that monkey!
It was hard at first, but it got easier, and life still has its ups and downs. No matter what is going on in my life, drinking is never an option, and that is key to beating this thing, it's acceptance that the drinking is over, for good, no matter what. No wiggle room, no defeat, no surrender. But yeah, with drinking out of the picture there was room for all kinds of other growth and development, my confidence and self respect came back, there's been nothing but positive changes since my decision to quit. Life is good!
It was here on SR that I learned the tools (AVRT) I needed to take my life back, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you! Seriously this place is awesome, lots of great caring people and lots of wisdom and knowledge. Thank you all who put up with me for so long when I knew I needed to quit but just took me awhile to get it right!

Thanks gang! I've got an afternoon of bowling planned with my family and my sister with her kids and my mom and aunt and cousin. They don't know it's my one year today, I talk about my recovery with very few people in my life, I quit on my own with the tools I used here on SR. I will announce my achievement to my loved ones today though, it's a big deal for me.
Here's another gem for you house heads like me out there! The fact that I've quit drinking makes me want to dance, all the time, it just makes me so happy. We get one shot at this life, this is it people, no dress rehearsal. Being addicted to alcohol is no life at all.
"Lord, have mercy on my soul."
