Introducing myself

Hi there. I will be exactly two months sober tomorrow from amphetamine and prescription opioids. Just trying to maintain my sobriety and thought this forum might help. I am having a tooth removed tomorrow and am unsure how I feel about accepting any prescribed pain meds from the dentist afterward. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Kacc, if it were me...I would take the script for the pain meds but just dont fill it unless you really, REALLY need it. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

That's good advice. I never considered the option of having the script and only filling it if the extraction was especially painful. Thanks!

Welcome, kacc, to SR.

Good luck with the tooth extraction.

Are they able to prescribe a pain med that is not an opioid?

Welcome Kacc. I’m with Delilah- maybe ask for a non-narcotic pain pill.

Hi and welcome Kacc.

I;m Australian - never been offered pain relief by the dentists here - just sometimes antibiotics.

I've had root canals broken teeth, abscesses you name it - over the counter pain relief - ibuprofen aspirin or paracetamol - seem to work just fine for me

Congratulations on 2 months of recovery!

I'm from Canada and I've never, ever been offered pain medication from a dentist either - not for a root canal or anything. You might be okay using an otc pain reliever. I hope it goes well.
