Day 9

I have been drinking on and off for the last 18 months. But in the past 6 months there has been a lot of binge drinking and black outs. A total of 8. My family have great concerns and I couldn't agree with them more that I needed help. I was never a drinker not even socially so it is weird how this tumbled out of control so quickly. I did have gastric bypass four years ago and know that alcohol is absorbed quickly due to the surgery. Definitely not an excuse just an observation if anyone else has ever had the surgery. I read through the post here and give people so much credit for trying to get through on their own. I called a doctor and schedule a therapist appointment as soon as I made the decision to get sober. I don't think I could EVER do this on my own. But I can say that reading the stories on here has helped me to keep motivated. I haven't had any withdraw symptoms and as my friends say I am annoyingly happy. I had my first therapy appointment yesterday and it felt really good to talk to someone. I have never been depressed or nervous - and I think that is a big plus for me. I am motivated to change and now realize I am a NON-drinker for life - and you know what.....I am so okay with that. It beats the alternative. I was extremely luck to not have killed myself or someone else. The reality of that alone keeps me sober. Stay strong's one day at a time.
