Pretty much official: the drink did my job in after the fact
as I wrote yesterday, I was called in to review years of results. before and after things got bad, my performance is anywhere from high to high-medium. but the drinking scores pulled it down because it's cumulative.
It seemed like it was just a warning and maybe probation was going to kick in. As I've been able to dig deeply I've found that that's not the case. what stings is that this wasn't an immediate consequence. No. It was delayed but it all caught up.
Please don't continue to drink if you are actively consuming and reading this. It's just not worth the high price. I worked hard for this and it will follow me since it's a career or was one.
anyone else suffer on the job front?

But, you still have your job, I assume? Or have you lost the job for sure now?
I hope you can maintain strength through this and remember to keep your recovery in focus. I'm sorry for the stress you are going through.

Sorry for the homelessness. I still have it, but the I think that will end at year's end.
I'm not tempted, surprisingly. Since it was the main cause, I'm not tempted to go anywhere near it. There's not one area it left untouched. Health has bounced back but at one point I had gained over 70 lbs and had constant shakiness and red face.

Yes. I'm a musician and lost a wonderful, challenging gig I'd had for 11 years. My bandmates were like my brothers but I was too unreliable, too unpredictable. I could not be trusted to show up, and at the time I was too far gone to even care. I hurt them and behaved in ways I never thought possible. I did get my reputation and my friendships back but it took years of hard work to prove I wouldn't let my colleagues down again, that I could be trusted. Redemption was possible for me and I never want to go back either.

My job suffered too. My performance at work suffered greatly because of my drinking. And I know everyone including my former manager knew why. Fortunately after 66 days of being sober, my performance has improved drastically to the point where I had a co worker compliment me on how I seemed happy and more outgoing, more involved in work related issues. My whole attitude towards work has changed since being sober.
Who knows though, I could get laid off at any moment but in the meantime, I'm doing the best I can at work and taking it day by day and continue to stay sober.

Work definitely suffered
Yep, my ability to perform at work definitely decreased. Also, I was in a job situation for a long time that was not a good environment. I had a hard time getting sober being in an unhealthy environment (even though I fully admit ethanol NEVER improved anything!)
I admire your post so much and can relate, especially to hindsight being 20/20....as I look back, I also see I was worse off than I thought.
A great movie about a professional comeback in alcoholism recovery is called "Burnt" starring Bradley Cooper as a chef. He hurt his career with alcohol but makes a triumphant comeback - I found it really inspiring and hopeful - I think you would enjoy it!
Saying prayers that you get to keep your job as your performance has improved. Hugs.

i never lost a single job.
but gave quite a few to people more responsible.
i only had one year i was able to work after getting sober, but didnt have any performance problems, unless improved performance is a problem.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to reply here. I'm sorry I went AWOL. I will catch up at a later time. I managed to turn everything around 180 degrees by working harder than I've ever worked in my life. In fact, there were many days where I almost threw in the towel because I did maybe 6x the work I would normally have to do to get medium-high performance. I was aiming for through the roof. I did manage to get that. That wouldn't have happened if I were drunk. Just couldn't have managed it.
More details to come.
Thank you, all. It can be done.

When I'm drinking, all I want to do is get through the day without anyone noticing I'm hungover. My brain is in a fog. When I'm sober, I like my job and do really well at it. I do think sometimes about finding a less stressful job to aid in staying sober. That's for down the road, though.
So glad you turned things around!
