I decided I was tired of me as I was.....lost 30+ pounds over 5 years ago. Diets don't work, lifestyle changes work. I changed how I ate and began finding movement that I enjoyed.

I love going to the gym! I haven't gone regularly for a few years due to drinking getting in the way, though. I'm trying desperately to stop drinking, and getting exercise and feeling good is one of the things that keeps me motivated to not drink (once I get in the routine).

How about finding a good podcast to listen to?

I didn't do much when I first started going to the gym. I'd try this machine, that machine and be gone in 20 minutes. But I kept going and after a while got into a routine that I liked. I began adding this machine on than another. Than I added weights. Eventually it just became a habit. IMHO, start slowly but keep going. After a while, you will actually look forward to going (most of the time). John

I walk and swim. Both are gentle and help me get into a zen place.

I go on the stairstepper, plug in my music and drift off into la la land. John

I don’t know your fitness level, but starting with a simple walk for 15-30 minutes can be beneficial and not too strenuous. I’ve gone too hard starting out before and burnt out. I look forward to my walk (about 5 days a week) and have already starting planning upping the ante as my endurance builds (running, weight training). The key for me is not overdoing it and turning it into something I enjoy rather than dread doing.

I dove right in, I used to bodybuild in my mid-30s and increased the weight like I did 30 years ago. ALMOST caused an injury, so backed off to whole body workouts with lighter weights higher reps, 3 circuits of 14 machines in about an hour fifteen, followed by hour and a half cardio, 4-5 times a week, also doing a keto diet to lose about 40 pounds while maintaining muscle mass. Will replace some of this with yoga.

I hated the gym, but I'm digging it at the moment, and it got me to dump the smoking habit I picked up in rehab.

Walking and swimming for me too. Long walks reduce my anxiety and stress and can completely change my mindset. Try things out. There will be something the connects with you.

Although I used to go to the gym a lot, these days I stick to activities that I truly enjoy. I actually look forward to it rather than see it as a chore.

In the past few years I've really taken to cycling. I enjoy spending long periods of time in my 'zen' zone.

Great job on 30 days.

For me, it took me awhile to feel up to real exercise. I have a dog so I did short walks with him more often during the day. I got a job that demanded a lot of standing (fast food) then a server job at 5+ mo.

I finally started running around 100 days- I found a one mile race series for 3 months (one a month) then by Dec had graduated to 5Ks. This year, my fiance and I have run a 5K a month and I added yoga for real in May - just decided to take it from home to a hot yoga studio.

I needed to gain weight in sobriety but I have put on too much so now my goal is daily exercise, and cutting out the things like big size frozen yogurt that have still been a diet companion here at 19 mo.

Finding what works for me, and being consistent about it as I listen to my body and know that healing from the serious alcoholism I was living with takes time.

Take care.

I find exercise really therapeutic, especially when warding off cravings, but I also find it very boring. I bought a cheap cross-trainer and walk, run and cycle to music, or the TV. Have to admit, I feel loads better after even ten minutes on it

I think exercise is a "momentum" thing. The way to get motivated is to do it in spite of a lack of motivation at first. Schedule it and force yourself to start. As you become consistent and start to see results it is like running downhill. It is easier to keep doing it, than to stop. Remember to start slowly and be consistent. You have your whole life to make "gains". The important thing is to maintain consistency so that it becomes a part of your life and not a side "chore". Motivation grows as you continue when lacking motivation.

The best kind of exercise is the kind you'll keep doing, so try a bunch of different stuff and see what sticks.

For me, walking lead to longer walks, then jogging. Now I'm incorporating weights three times a week, and unlike other times when I've tried weights, this time I actually look forward to it.

The only thing that motivates me is seeing results. So I weigh myself once a week and eat 1300 calories a day and exercise 7 days a week (5 days at the gym, 2 only walking).
