Thanks to SR, for those struggling there is hope!

Hi All,

I am approaching seven months without a sip of alcohol and want to thank everyone on these forums for all the support offered to me in the early days. I am enjoying sober life so much that I rarely get the urge to drink and when I do a simple "play the tape forward" is all it takes for me to ignore the desire to drink.

I have tried to stop drinking many times over the years and for those just starting out here are some things that have helped me most:

1) Finally accepting that I will never be able to moderate my drinking.

2) Checking into these very supportive forums often, especially in the early days.

3) Getting old enough to realize that every waking moment is precious and not wanting to ruin them with hangovers, or worse yet shorten my life with alcohol abuse.

It was hard work at first, but the more sober time I build the easier it gets. For those of you just starting, there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay strong everyone, sober life is great!

7 months is wonderful, RG.

I couldn't agree more with all your points. I wasted decades trying to moderate. I'm happy you're doing so well - and thanks for a valuable message.
