Oh the way people remember me...

I was helping a friend with some car work the other day and tripped over the jack handle, fell and scraped the crap out my knee/leg and broke my big toe(psa:Wear closed toe shoes when working!). Anyways, I was over at my business partners for dinner with his wife and kids. As soon as his wife saw my bandaged leg and obvious limp I get the "How drunk were you?".. She was quite surprised/"proud of me". When Her husband told her the last time I had a drink(7+mo and going strong). She didn't even know I had stopped drinking. She apologized for her assuming I was drunk but, I told her that's not needed, If anything I owe them an apology for my past drunken crap.. It does take time and positive living for others to 'forget' that drunk guy that I was.

Been there.

I was at my husband's company's Christmas party where there was an open bar. I was DD and so was drinking tea that night. I accused myself to the bathroom and on my way back I slipped somehow and hit the floor.

First thing people asked my husband, was if I had been drinking. I was kind of sad about it but I kind of 'earned' that reputation.

I'm the same way....in the past I've been told "Every time I see you, you're drunk" but I guess that's what I get for always being drunk, right!?!

7+ months is awesome! Congrats!

I can relate. People just automatically assumed I was drunk. Mornings even.
After over six years sober, it still seems to freak my friends and family out when I'm with them or not drinking.
Time takes time I guess.

No - people base me on what they remember me as...not what I have become.

The lesson here for us in recovery is to lean in closely to allow us to see others as they are, not how they were.
