It finally is starting to feel better
Hi, my name is Jarrod. This is the first time I've ever posted or even been on a website for recovery, but it seems like a good outlet to get things off my chest. I was in the Marines for eight years (04-12) and was in combat multiple times. When I was in I would drink with boys and have a good time, but never thought much of it. However, when I got out the war caught up to me and the drinking started. Once life slowed down I would drink to forget about everything. Over the course of the last four years I got my degree from Gonzaga University and have accomplished quite a bit. Last Summer I was to the point I was polishing off three fifths or more a week. Although, I never got in trouble or ruined anything, my wife, family and friends all started to notice the amount I was drinking.
I was pretty much drunk or drinking anytime I wasn't at school. Before things spiraled out of control I went and got help from the VA and did IOP (intensive outpatient treatment). I was sober for 4-5 months and then on New Years this year started drinking again. Not as much as before, but to the point where I was feeling a need for it. It was time to give it up for good. As of today I have been sober for a month and feel great. I've found ways to fight cravings, which have subsided drastically.
There are times when I still feel like a drink and that's why I joined this site. To interact with others in similar situations. Thanks!!

Hi Jarrod. Welcome. Glad you're here and posting. I think I signed up about a month in as well. I joined AA around the same time, and for the same reasons as you have joined here. Congrats on a month sober.
Have you developed a recovery plan? If not it might be worth reading through the links on Dee's thread (s) and starting to put one together.
