I'm in. I start off here on Thursday but then slack once the weekend hits. I just can never seem to check on the weekends. Too many things pulling me in too many directions.

Ditto what MLD said. I always viewed St. Patricks Day (and all other "drinking holidays") as amateur hour and avoided going out. These were the too few days during the year when I didn't drink too much. Most of the official celebrations of St. Pat's happened last weekend. I was just reading yesterday an account of the police calls in one area of the City related to that area's fun. Fights. Calls to emergency for women passed out. More fights. More women passed out. Etc. etc. etc. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

Stick with sobriety. You'll always know where your car is in the morning and you are less likely to puke on a stranger.

So funny/sad/scary. Can't tell you how many times I couldn't find my car but then thought it was fine to drive once I did find it.

I'm so grateful I never hurt anyone while behind the wheel.

I did total two cars, though, under the influence - it was in the 70s and I wasn't charged. One accident not my fault, but I was drinking and had beer in the car. The other driver was arrested for intoxicated driving, I was sent to the hospital in an ambulance. Then there were the three other accidents I was in where no other cars were involved, and my cars were reparable.

For some reason we were not given our grades or the opportunity to review the answers like we always have in the past.

I just think this professor is a breed all her own.. who knows why she wanted to leave early..

'Out of Office' is on!!

Let the fun and games begin!

Freedom until Monday 20th March. Where shall I end up? Hopefully drinking coffee in a sunny St. Stephen's Green, Dublin.

I think my boss is getting used to me now. He asked me to sign a letter on his behalf today and he NEVER EVER let's people do that

I'm in for another sober weekend -
I guess I'm skipping st Patrick s day this year. Not even any corned beef and cabbage since I've cut back on meat. I won't miss having another excuse to get wasted. Wasted time is more like it.
nope....I won't be sick this weekend. ....*****! !

A kind of bottom line description of civilisation there Ruby.

Living in the centre of town I thank God I never needed to access a car to socialise or buy booze. I would probably have killed or injured someone or myself by now.

Glad you think your test went well BC.

I am still at work, payback time for yesterday's skiving off to Portmeirion.

Turns out, it didn't go so well. Well above passing but still disappointed.

Coming off 2 snow days is a little rough. I hated being trapped home now I hate being trapped at work lolol. Kinda nice knowing only one more day though. I was out of coffee at 10 am yesterday and housebound. Made for a crankypants day.

Thanks for the opener, Sao.

Just to piggyback on the theme, you'll never regret sobriety. And 'holidays' like St. Pat's are a good reminder of that. (Yep, I've got one in my history I wish I could take back. Can't.)

It feels really good to know there aren't going to be any more of those "wish I could take that day back" days.

For new friends, the tug is understandable. One thing I find very helpful -- early in sobriety but helpful in life, too -- is to break a pattern by creating a new memory. If St. Pat's reminds you of the bars, or imbibing anywhere, how about trying something totally different this year? Find a place where you've never gone for a walk. Go to a coffee shop you've never visited before and order something tasty. The sky's really the limit.

In!!!!

Excellent reminder Sao!

With so much going on for me in getting settled I forgot it was "that" day. Glad I do not participate. No need for that story to be retold.

OK... Back to the business at hand. Have a great day team!!

Beautiful sunny Friday morning here. Few green /Irish tops around already at 830am.
Can't wait to get out of the city later to the safety of home.

I meant to write until "Monday 27th March"

Anyway I'm just back from Tesco. Surprise surprise...it was full of students buying alcoholic drinks.
One of them was saying "yeah but I don’t want to drink all of it tonight. I want to save some for tomorrow".

I guess there will be plenty of sore heads over the next few days.

That sounds like a nice time, Tetra. Hope you enjoy your break!

It's a weird thing to see college students and know how much they're drinking. I think that's where my seeds were at least sewn and when I look at students, it's hard not to wonder who among them will become "one of us." And if it could be prevented if there was a way to reduce college drinking. Sigh.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Welcome to Weekenders LoveHateMerlot. It seems daunting at first but it is not as hard as you think. Lots of displacement activities are a good idea. Stick around.

Enjoy your trip to Dublin Tetra. It will be good to have a break from your flat.
