SR New Year Time Zones Marathon
Hi, my SR friends!
It's December 31 at my part of the world, and I am starting the SR New Year Time Zones marathon.
It's become a tradition for me - because it's my 5th Sober New Year and it's the 5th time I start this thread
I remember my first Sober New Year, and it was like diving into thick scary uncertainty.
Will it be possible to enjoy festive spirit without wine?
Will the New Year come at all if I don’t pop a cork out of Champaigne? Or will chimes stop ringing and I will get stuck in December 31?
Will my world ever be the same?
Will I ever be able to experience this excitement of anticipation or will I end up being emotionally dead?
After quitting wine and first alcohol-free New Year Eve my world certainly wasn’t the same. And it is great because there is hardly anything more more unnatural than staying the same.
I once came across a non-conventional definition of chaos - absence of change. It made perfect sense to me because whether I want it or not I am changing along with the world around, and resentment of need to change creates chaos.
My emotions went through a “flat line” stage and there were lots of times when I was tempted to “defibrilliate” them with wine. But emotions came back to life following their own instinct and being free from intoxication.
I don’t need a set of external factors to create holiday atmosphere and define my mood any more. I don’t need to buy emotions. I know how to “feel sober”.
If you are a newcomer, chances are you feel fear facing an alcohol free day, week, life.
Fear is ok. It’s natural.
It’s your shadow. But who is in charge - you or your shadow?
Your lead, the shadow follows.
Don’t let fear convince you that it’s the other way around.
Amidst all this sparkling frenzy take a moment for yourself. Connect with a place which is uniquely yours.
Give yourself a gift of freedom from being manipulated - by traditions, friends, family members - anyone or anything who tries to convince you that you are missing something if you don’t drink “to a Happy New Year”.
It’s simply not true.
It’s the opposite. It’s where the real life begins.
Seel 2017 with clear vision and sober mind.
And have an awesome sober New Year!
Let’s get our Sober New Year Time Zones Marathon started!
There’s how it works: the first members to welcome the New Year post and say a few words about how their Sober New Year looks like. Any pics are welcome.
Our friends from Australia usually kick it off. The Europe takes over, and so on.
Stay with us. Have fun. Stay sober!
