Christmas sucks. I hate it. I am getting through it sober but I hate holidays.
Staying sober though.

Another wonderful, thoughtful post from you, MB.

On the solo thing: I've just now texted a very longterm girlfriend (well, neither of us are actually girls anymore...she's late 60s, me early 60s). She's having her first Christmas lunch at home on her own for probably decades, maybe the first ever. Mind you, she's not completely alone, as she has close family members very close by - but the usual arrangements had to be altered due to one of them being recently out of hospital (after a dangerous spider bite a week or more ago).

I encouraged her to simply enjoy the rather special pleasure of millions of us solo Christmas Day peeps: peace, quiet, her own home, her own special meal she'd prepared ( and she's a major foodie and great cook), her little elderly dog, the various social media / telly / music sessions she'll likely do. And not having to get dressed up and made up (which she does): bonus! 'A very particular kind of peace', I called it.

xxx Vic

I feel blessed to have had great Christmases as a kid growing up; that's what matters to me about Christmas. Those wonderful memories are a permanent part of me that I can always savor at will. I'm of the opinion that Christmas and the magic associated with it is mainly for children. If I ever have kids myself, it'll become a much bigger deal for me.

Thanks for this thread. This is a good Christmas Eve because I'm sober.
I think that is the biggest present to myself and anyone I come in contact with.

Happy Xmas, SR!

As many of you beautifully said - make it a special day of peace and care for yourself.

I appreciate the post. I appreciate the members who play the word games. I'm alone, ill, but sober! and mostly home bound. Like Least, I have my dogs, and warm thoughts of friends and family, SR members. Joy to everyone.
